Welcome to the East Metro
Atlanta Christian Critique’s new home in cyberspace. Today I want to blog about Critique Groups. When I joined EMACW about eighteen months ago, I asked if we had any critique groups set up. The answer was no.

We surveyed the chapter to determine which of us wanted to join with other writers in order to improve our works in progress. Many members signed up to be in a critique group. What happened to you turkeys? Only one committed group materialized. Martha Brown, Brian Thompson and Jackie Rodriguez met in August to form the Tripod Scribes. We continue to meet every Tuesday morning to encourage each other and hone our craft.

Time’s awastin’! Are you still stuck in that story you’ve been working on for three or four years? If so, I recommend you find a critique group or a writing partner, get the lead out and get busy. Time is running out! No one can live forever, and no one can write your story but you. God has blessed you with the talent, and the world is waiting for your story!

In the coming weeks, I will discuss the importance of critique groups and provide a list of benefits the members receive. Look for these subjects in the near future: accountability, bonding, brainstorming, craft, editing, encouragement, friendship, grammar, inspiration, learning, listening, motivation, networking, oral reading, and FUN.

The New Year is here

I hope you are well and rested. Ready or not – the New Year is here. Congratulations to you for hanging in there; setting goals, and stretching yourself outside your comfort zone.

As good stewards of our writing and speaking talents, we must always be working toward excellence.

I’m asking each of you to join me in a new challenge this year. It’s called, “Focus on One”. This challenge is four-fold.

1. Pray and ask God where he wants your immediate focus in 2012; make a covenant with God to achieve the one goal.

2. Write the goal down and share it with your family and writer friends. Accountability partners will pray for you and nudge you along.

3. Identify the tools or the help you need to achieve your goal. (EMACW will share our resources with you.).

4. After you achieve the goal, thank God and celebrate.

Repeat the above process throughout the year to achieve additional goals.
